Arizona Christian University is excited to announce that Phoenix Councilman Bill Gates will speak at ACU’s 2015 Fall Commencement Ceremony December 12.
ACU’s Fall Commencement Ceremony is scheduled for 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 12, in the Fultz Memorial Gymnasium at Arizona Christian University. This will be ACU’s first Fall Commencement.
Councilman Gates was appointed to fill the City of Phoenix, District 3 seat in 2009. He was elected to a four-year term in August 2011, and then served as Vice Mayor from January 2013 to February 2014. He was honored by the Phoenix Business Journal in 2010 with a Forty under 40 Award, which recognizes prominent young leaders in various industries in metropolitan Phoenix. In 2012, the Arizona School of Public Relations Association presented him with the Award of Excellence for his contributions to public education.
“We are blessed to be represented by a Phoenix City Councilman who is committed to the people and neighborhoods he represents and also to the success of Arizona Christian University,” said ACU President Len Munsil. “Councilman Gates is a man of faith and conviction, and we are grateful for his work in our community and his willingness to be a part of our first December commencement.”
Councilman Gates has served in a variety of capacities with nonprofit and community organizations and is currently a Board Member for the Foundation for Blind Children, The Phoenix Symphony, Disabled Sports USA, and a member of the Arizona Advisory Board For U.S. Global Leadership Coalition. Councilman Gates received his bachelor’s degree in political science and economics in 1993 from Drake University and graduated from Harvard Law School in 1996. Councilman Gates is married and has two daughters.
